Being a mercenary allows you to fight for a kingdom, but it doesn’t mean that you’re a lord of that kingdom. With each battle and other activities that you take on for the kingdom, you’ll earn renown and influence. The more you fight, the better known you’ll become, and that’s the key to becoming a Vassal. Quick Tip
Thanks to the game’s skill system, you have to tune your character around the gameplay experience you wish to have. If you plan to be a mercenary in Mount and Blade: Bannerlord, you need to start with good combat skills. Choose a weapon type and stick to it—no use using trade skills if you don’t plan to be a trader.
Originally posted by White Knight: Being a mercenary has always been a lord quest. Unless you are playing a mod, there isn't much for the player to do as a mercenary. A mercenary just a soldier who gets paid to do some contract work for a faction. You basically become like the units you can hire in a tavern.
Regardless of that, there's already many other wage cost reductions and mercenary troops are very unlikely to be the majority of your army, simply because it's very rare to have more than 12 in a single tavern, while when you have progressed in the game, you can easily recruit 18-30 regular troops from town, 9-18 from villages.
Exactly, AWOIAF doesn't allow you to merc for the nights watch. . You can obviously still basically be a merc for them by following them into battles, defeating wildlings yourself, etc. good place for early game tbh. produno AWoIaF Developer • 6 yr. ago. Or in 3.5 you can freelancer for them. Not quite the same though.
